I have analyzed the Sword Fight between Inigo Montoya and Westley in The Princess Bride. Here is my Analysis:
Inigo and Westley’s Sword Fight

The fight I am choosing to do is the Sword Fight between Inigo Montoya and Westley. It is between Inigo and Westley, since Inigo has been given the order to kill Westley. Westley is trying to climb up the mountain, but is not achieving his goal. Inigo tells Westley that he won’t kill him until he reaches the top. He offers to help but Westley doesn’t believe him until Inigo swears on the soul of his father, Domingo Montoya, that Westley would reach the top of the mountain. He throws Westley the rope and helps him up the last bit of the cliff. After Westley rests for a second, they begin the fight, with the Westley and Inigo fighting with a rapier!
Inigo starts the fight, testing Westley’s moves, with a attack 4, and a thrust to the neck, which Westley avoids. Westley then becomes the attacker, and tests Inigo’s moves. Inigo uses a party 4, and avoids the cut Westley tries to make. They start fighting, both with their left hand, doing many attack 3, 4 and parry 3,4. They make a few thrusts and cuts. In the first part of the fight, Westley is mainly in power, making the attacks and Inigo is the defender or victim. Westley advances to the cliff, Inigo retreating. When Inigo is at the edge of the cliff, he shocks Westley, switching his sword, to his more dominant hand, his right hand. Inigo takes most of the power, leading Westley higher up the stairs built into the background. Inigo corners Westley, but in response Westley switches his sword into his right hand, his more dominant hand as well, giving a surprise to Inigo. He takes the power again, becoming the attacker, doing a counter attack, making Inigo swordless. Inigo jumps down and gets his sword, while Westley follows. They continue fighting, with the attacker being Inigo, but then overtaken by Westley.
Towards the end, Inigo starts slashing the rapier, without even looking at where Westley is standing. Westley takes advantage, making a thrust towards Inigo. Westley hits Inigo, and he is defeated. Inigo drops his sword, lowering down, with his hands by his side, looking defeated, ready for death. Westley respecting Inigo’s talent, doesn’t kill him. He makes his unconscious with a pommel attack to the head, winning the fight.
The fight ends with Westley winning. I really think that the resolution was very reasonable, especially if you calculate the number of times, Westley has overtaken Inigo, he is the rightful winner. He was definitely the better fighter, and the effect at the end, was very powerful. This fight really showed the in depth power of the two sword fighters. I like how they both could fight double-handedly and the changes in power. I would change the part where Inigo corners Westley on the wall, since he couldn’t have fallen down, or hurt himself. There was no chance of Inigo hurting him either. I would made the situation more dangerous and exciting. I really liked this fight, as it included many different moves, and really showed the true skill of the two fencers.
