Andrew Jackson, although a president, is considered a “villain” to America. Jackson became a war hero after the Battle Of New Orleans, ending the war of 1812. Elected in 1828 to the highest office in the land, with Calhoun as his vice president, Jackson became the seventh president of the United States Of America. There are 4 defining entities that made Jackson a villain to American Society: vetoing the recharter for the National Bank, developing the Spoils System, creating the Trail of Tears, and the case of Worcester vs. Georgia. Each of these four events led the United States down a steep slope. With the veto of the bank recharter, Jackson plunged the United States economy into recession. In in 1830, the Indian Removal Act was passed and Indians were forced to march the Trail Of Tears, leaving an indelible mark on American History. Jackson, in violation of his constitutional liberties, ignored the resolution of Worcester vs. Georgia and used military force to move Native Americans off their land. He effectively contravened the law and ignored a Supreme Court decision. In addition to all of that, he created the Spoils System where he rewarded supporters with high-end government jobs and fired those government workers. These 3 negative defining moments during Jackson’s Presidency are why we consider him a villain to America.
